Installing REXX Tips & Tricks

To use RXT&T just issue the command

 
   view rxtt34.inf

(where 34 is the version number) in an OS/2 session.
Well, because you're just reading this document you've already done that (or something similar) ;-).

But to get the most out of RXT&T please observe the following hints:

• Create a WPS program object for RXT&T with Path and filename set to VIEW.EXE, Parameters set to RXTT31.INF (were 31 is the version number) and Working directory set to your OS/2 boot drive (This is necessary for some external links).

  You may use the REXX program install.cmd included in this package to create the WPS Object for REXX Tips & Tricks.. If you lost the install script, you can extract it from this section.

• To use the imbedded REXX code, REXX must be installed and the programs REXXTRY.CMD and PMREXX.EXE must be available through the path.

• Ensure that the REXX online help REXX.INF and the OS/2 online help CMDREF.INF are available for the VIEW program. Their directories should be listed in the BOOKSHELF environment variable in CONFIG.SYS.

• Ensure that the programs CMD.EXE, REXXTRY.CMD and E.EXE are available through the PATH.

• If you want to use the links to web sites, ftp sites, newsgroups or email addresses inside of REXX Tips & Tricks you must have a program called rxttwww.cmd available through the PATH.
  A sample rxttwww.cmd is included in this package and also here.

• You can also use the new view.exe replacement NewView to view REXX Tips & Tricks. But please be aware, that you can not use every feature of REXX Tips & Tricks in NewView. That's because NewView is still not fully compatible to view.exe

• There are also an INF file viewer for DOS and windwos (see the readme file). But these viewers can not show all parts of REXX Tips & Tricks. It's also not possible to use all features of REXX Tips & Tricks with these viewers.
